泛亞交響樂團

泛亞交響樂團是本地一個組織嚴謹的樂團,旨在向普羅大眾,特別是本地年青人推廣音樂。為了完成這項使命,樂團在這三十年間經常在香
港大會堂、各區會堂及文娛中心演出過幾百場的音樂會,並曾邀請過不少國際知名的指揮家和獨奏家合作演出。而透過流行音樂及教育式的講解,樂團成功地向群眾介紹嚴肅音樂及中國管弦音樂作品,提高他們對本地文化的認識。

葉惠康博士  - 音樂總監
葉惠康博士曾在香港浸會大學服務幾近三十年,包括擔任音樂及藝術系系主任二十年,是香港合唱音樂及交響樂教育的一大功臣,同時,三
十年來他又積極投身兒童音樂教育。一九七六年他成立泛亞交響樂團,他也是香港兒童合唱團和葉氏兒童合唱團的創辦人,一九九六年,葉博士創立了香港兒童交響樂團,以栽培香港少年人才為宗旨。

葉博士是本地傑出的音樂教育家,過去四十年來對香港音樂教育的貢獻,早已是街知巷聞。他早年在北京的燕京大學和中央音樂學院受教育,後赴美國,於一九七○年在南方浸信會神學院完成教會音樂碩士課程,並於一九七九年在美國德薩斯州西南浸信會神學院考取音樂藝術博士學位。

在他輝煌的事業生涯裏,他獲獎無數,包括美國福華斯、達斯、圖森幾個城巿的榮譽巿民,獲佛羅里達州雅方湖頒授金鑰匙,美國肯塔基州頒發長官銜,是香港一九九○年藝術教育家年獎得主。二○○三年,他獲香港特別行政區頒授榮譽勳章;二○○六年獲香港浸會大學頒予榮譽大學院士銜;二○○八年榮獲英國韋爾斯大教堂學校院士銜。

廖國敏 - 客席指揮
     「令人矚目的指揮奇才」《費城詢報》

廖國敏剛在寇蒂斯音樂學院以雙主修畢業,師承梅勒主修管弦樂指揮,另外在柏特門下主修古鍵琴。他早年於香港演藝學院師隨郭嘉特專修鋼琴,以一級榮譽畢業,隨即獲獎學金前往茱莉亞音樂學院修讀碩士課程,師隨麥杜奴學習鋼琴,同時跟隨艾倫學習指揮,以及徐爾及嘉力斯坦學習室學。

這個夏天,廖氏應費城樂團之邀,以指揮和古鍵琴獨奏的身份在曼因中心演出。在二○○八年夏季,他獲邀在加拿大渥太華的指揮家音樂節演出,並獲頒艾夫隆指揮研究生獎學金及狄奧多出版社基金青年指揮家大獎。廖氏曾於寇蒂斯音樂學院樂團擔任康隆及艾森巴赫等著名指揮家的副手,亦曾擔任多部歌劇的助理指揮,包括《唐.喬望尼》、《費加羅的婚禮》、《卡門》等。廖氏最近應紐約卡奈基音樂廳邀請在音樂廳公開大師班上演出及接受指揮家利雲的指導。廖氏獲寇蒂斯音樂學院邀請留校任教。

金惠珍 - 小提琴獨奏

金惠珍是美國音樂表演者協會二○○九年國際比賽得獎者,也是二○○四年曼奴軒國際比賽的冠軍得主,《史特拉德》雜誌形容她的琴藝「令人心跳戛然而止,優美得無人匹敵」。

她曾在艾遜巴赫指揮下與費城管弦樂團合作演出,也在新澤西交響樂團、英國廣播公司音樂會樂團、首爾愛樂樂團及漢諾威室樂團舉辦的音樂會上獻藝。此外,她也參與室樂演奏,合作過的名家包括內田光子、拉雷杜、卡花費安、費特、卡力殊、畢斯,以及瓜奈利弦樂四重奏、茱莉亞弦樂四重奏、邁亞密弦樂四重奏、獵戶座弦樂四重奏等,在馬博羅、拉溫尼亞、天火之樂、普魯士洞等音樂節上演出。

金氏十四歲入讀寇蒂斯音樂學院,隨拉雷杜及卡花費安學藝。考取學士學位後,憑林葆絲校長獎學金到新英格蘭音樂學院進修,是費特的學生,後在該校考取碩士學位。金氏在韓國出生,現用以演奏的樂器是卡柏於一六八七年所造的小提琴。

Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra

Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra is a highly organized orchestra aiming at promoting music among the general public especially the young
generation in Hong Kong.  In order to achieve its goal, the Orchestra has performed frequently in the Hong Kong City Hall, regional town halls and civic centres a few hundred times over the past 30 years.  A number of internationally famous conductors and soloists have been invited to perform with it.  By using the idioms of popular music and organizing concert talks, the Orchestra has successfully introduced serious music and Chinese orchestral music to the public, and at the same time, brought about an awareness of the indigenous culture of the people.

Dr. Yip Wai-hong - Music Director
Dr. Yip Wai-hong served the Hong Kong Baptist University as the Head of Music and Fine Arts Department for almost 30 years.  He has
contributed to popularizing education on choral and symphonic music in Hong Kong and has been involved in children’s music education for over 30 years.  He established the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra in 1976 and was the founder of the Hong Kong Children’s Choir and Yip’s Children’s Choir.  He founded the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra in 1996 with the aim to nourish young talents in Hong Kong.

Dr. Yip is an eminent music educator, and his contribution to Hong Kong music education over the last four decades has become the stuff of legend.  Educated at Yen-Ching University in Beijing and at the Central Conservatory of Music, he completed a Master’s degree in Church Music at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kentucky, the United States in 1970; and a Doctorate in Musical Arts at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Texas, the United States in 1979.

The honours and accolades bestowed upon him during his illustrious career include Honorary Citizenships of Fort Worth, Dallas and Tucson; The Golden Key of Avon Lake, Florida; Colonel of the State of Kentucky, the United States; and Hong Kong Art Education of the Year in 1990.  In 2003, he was awarded the Medal of Honour of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.  On 5th of September 2006, he was conferred the Award of Honorary University Fellow of Hong Kong Baptist University.  Dr. Yip was made the Fellows of Wells Cathedral School, the United Kingdom in 2008.

Lio Kuok-man - Guest Conductor

Lio Kuok-man is a recent graduate from the Curtis Institute of Music with a double major in orchestral conducting under the instruction of Otto-Werner Mueller and harpsichord performance with Lionel Party.  After graduating from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, under the tutorship of Gabriel Kwok, with first-class honours, he was awarded a fellowship to pursue a Master's degree in piano performance with Robert McDonald at the Juilliard School of Music, where he also studied conducting with Virginia Allen and chamber music with Michael Tree and Joseph Kalichstein.

His most recent engagement includes a performance with The Philadelphia Orchestra as both conductor and harpsichord soloist this summer at the Mann Center.  In the summer of 2008, Lio was invited to the Ottawa Young Conductors Program where he conducted a gala performance with the National Arts Center Orchestra.  During that summer, he was awarded the David Effron Fellowship to serve as conducting fellow at the Chautauqua Institute.  Lio has served as assistant conductor and prepared the Curtis Symphony Orchestra for guest conductors, such as James Conlon and Christoph Eschenbach.  He has been the assistant conductor of the Curtis Opera Theatre for productions such as Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro and Carmen.  Lio is invited by the Carnegie Hall to perform at Carnegie Zankel Hall in a public masterclass coached by James Levine.  Lio now teaches at Curtis Institute of Music.

Kim Hye-Jin - Violin Solo

Kim Hye-Jin is the winner of the 2009 Concert Artists Guild International Competition and the First Prize win at the 2004 Yehudi Menuhin International Competition.  The Strad described her artistry as “heart-stopping and unrivaled beauty”.

Kim’s concerto engagements include the Philadelphia Orchestra with Christoph Eschenbach, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and Hanover Chamber Orchestra.  As a chamber musician, Kim has collaborated with renowned musicians including Mitsuko Uchida, Jaime Laredo, Ida Kavafian, Miriam Fried, Gilbert Kalish as well as Paul Biss and members of the Guarneri, Juilliard, Miami and Orion String Quartets at Marlboro, Ravinia, Music from Angel Fire and Prussia Cove.

Kim entered the Curtis Institute of Music at 14 and received her Bachelor’s degree there working with Jaime Laredo and Ida Kavafian.  She obtained her Master’s degree at the New England Conservatory studying with Miriam Fried as a recipient of the Emma V. Lambrose Presidential Scholarship.  Korean-born, Kim plays a 1687 Gioffredo Cappa violin.
