 韓國國寶級導演林權澤的第一百部作品，延續前作《天涯歌女》中對韓國民間藝術說唱的傳統。在發揚韓國國粹同時，亦刻劃了愛情的軟弱和痛楚。自幼便被說唱師傅收養的師兄妹，一個打鼓，一個說唱，踏遍天涯，唱盡人生甘苦。漸漸，師兄對師妹暗生情愫，但倫理道德卻令微妙感情飽受壓抑。人生路上千迴百轉，當情事宣之於口，卻發現已經愛得太遲。劇中人對說唱的堅忍和執着，一如林權澤對電影藝術的追求，《天涯歌女》、《醉畫仙》、《 千年思憶》中 為藝術而作的犠牲，可以是愛情、健康，甚至乎一生。大師之作，不容錯失。

 The 100 th film of Korean master filmmaker Im Kwon-taek, BEYOND THE YEARS is a period drama that centres on the poignant love story between two protégés of a traditional Korean Pansori musician. Dong-ho calls Sung-hwa his "sister", but the only thing that relates them is the years they spent together learning to perform Pansori from their adopted father. Bound by moral scruples, neither can confess their love for the other until it is too late.
